We’ve really only been mixing/mastering at 24-bit quality for the past handful of years. Earlier titles were mixed and mastered at 16-bit/44.1k CD-quality, so that’s the highest level of quality available for those.

We wouldn’t simply bump 16-bit/44.1k releases to higher bit and sample rates just to call them “high res” or “high definition.” (Think of enlarging a photo larger than 100% of its original size…sure, it’s larger, but it’s also blurry). If the project wasn’t originally mastered at 24-bit resolution, then we won’t be offering it at that resolution. We just care too much about the quality to do it any other way.
